According to a noble initiative of the Sri Lanka Tibet Buddhist Brotherhood Society, a sacred Kapilavastu relic of the Buddha housed at Waskaduwa Rajaguru Sri Subhuthi Viharaya was presented to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on April 5, 2024. The relic, placed in a golden casket adorned with diamonds and gems, was brought by Sri Lankan representatives who were warmly welcomed at Kangra airport by Most Ven. Linn Rinpoche, Tibet President Penpa Tsering, and other dignitaries.
Amidst grand celebrations and with multitudes lining the roadsides, the sacred relic was ceremoniously escorted to the Dharamshala Dalai Lama temple, where His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama resides. Most Venerable Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Maha Nayaka Thero and Dr. Damenda Porage, the founder of the Sri Lanka Tibet Buddhist Brotherhood Society, presented the relic to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The event was attended by members of the Maha Sangha representing the Tri Nikaya, along with Dr. Shermila Milroy and numerous dignitaries.
Dr. Damenda Porage played a key role in coordinating the presentation of the sacred relic to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His efforts are focused on uplifting the Buddha Sasana and fostering unity among different Buddhist traditions worldwide. Presenting this relic to His Holiness signifies a significant step towards uniting diverse Buddhist traditions and creating a cohesive Buddhist community globally.
