UNIVERSAL DAY OF COMPASSION

The 12th General Assembly of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP), which was held in New Delhi, India recently, declared July 6, the birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, as the “Universal Day of Compassion.”

This proclamation honors the core teachings of Lord Buddha and His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, aiming to foster harmony and peace worldwide.

During the conference, it was also unanimously decided that His Holiness the Dalai Lama would be recognized as the “Universal Supreme Leader of the Buddhist World” in appreciation of his lifelong efforts to unite Buddhist communities globally.

According to the ‘New Delhi statement’ issued at the conference, designating July 6th as the ‘Universal Day of Compassion’ serves as a tribute to the commitment of Buddhist people around the world to promoting peace, kindness, and non-violence.

Buddhist leaders from around the globe gathered and expressed that His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the only Buddhist monk to have received the Nobel Peace Prize, embodies the compassion exemplified by the Buddha throughout history.
