75 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE_____

Today marks 75 years of political independence from British rule in 1948. Looking back at 75 years of history since that day, we, as a country, have come a long way amidst wrong turns. There have been disappointments, as well as great achievements along the way.

The independence gained in 1948 was not the independence that was pursued by the true national heroes who shed blood to gain it.

As we approach the 75th anniversary of our independence from the British rule on February 4, 1948, our hope for the present-day Sri Lanka is a state with sovereignty and patriotism combined with national responsibility. That it will be carried from the present to the future in the same way as in history.

The road travelled until the 4th of February, 1948, was hard. Our people have struggled and wept but yet their hope always beamed towards a better ‘Tomorrow’.

It may take another 100 years or even more. Let’s embrace the challenge till we get there. Until then, Sri Lanka is our’s to protect and our’s to rebuild!

Happy 75th Independence Day!
